What is a Project?

A project is a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service, or result.  A project is temporary in that it has a defined beginning and end.  A project is unique in that it is not a routine operation, but a specific set of operations designed to accomplish a singular goal.

A scope of work is generally considered a project if it meets one or more of the following criteria:

  • requires coordination among two or more groups within ITS or UConn at large,
  • involves contracting with an outside vendor,
  • has dependencies with other projects,
  • is a capital project, or
  • is tracked by the Joint Audit and Compliance Committee (JACC).

These are general guidelines. The ITS PMO is here to help you with your project, and we will meet with you to discuss your needs, regardless of whether your project meets the above criteria.
